Technical Director's Corner
Be sure to check out the Calendar for specialized training sessions dates! I will hold training for coaches, and GoalKeeper training regularly.
Here are some tools for the coaches:
| Ground Passing |
Here is a great passing session. Even the U19's will have fun and get alot out of this. I have done this with ages 5-16. Make adjustments on size, distance, pace, communications, and # of touches according to age and skill level.
|
| Non-stop shooting Drills |
Here are some shooting drill small sided games for practice sessions. Adjust size of field according to age of players. Younger players (7-10) should start without keeper then progress to having a keeper. If their age group does not use keepers, they should not have keepers at all. |
| Dribbling Practice Session |
Here is a great dribbling session I have used. It gets the players heads up and looking around while dribbling. I have done it with Soccer Buddies (2-6 year olds) and 12-15 year olds with the same fun and results. |
| Create Space on Throw-In |
Many teams do not take the time to practice throw in plays and it really hurts your team more than you know. One of the things I do when I monitor a game is count throw-in plays, goal kicks, kick-off plays, and keeper kicks and how often they work. For your next game, ask one of the parents to keep track of all of these plays and the results of each. You will be shocked. I bet you will practice them more. The OBX highschool girls team scores on 87% of their corner kicks for the past 3 years when playing against the Currituck High girls. They practice it more than anyone else. |
| Defense is not a position |
Defense wins championships - Offense sells tickets. |
